Niamh currently works as a Public Health Nurse in Abbeyfeale, West Limerick. She is also an IBCLC in private practice for the Kerry/Limerick area. She is qualified as an RGN, PHN, IBCLC, and has a BSc and MSc in Nursing, as well as a BSc in Nursing Management.
After qualifying as a nurse in 2006, Niamh worked in the hospital setting for several years, in various wards before moving to care of the elderly in the community. She developed a particular interest in caring for those with Cognitive Impairment, and was the Clinical Nurse Manager of a large Dementia Unit. In 2016 she qualified as a PHN.
During her work as a PHN, Niamh discovered her passion for breastfeeding, and began studying to become an IBCLC, with the support of the local mothers of Abbeyfeale.
Niamh hosts two breastfeeding support groups each week, one in Abbeyfeale as a PHN (in-person), and one through her private Facebook Group “Latching On” (Online).
Niamh lives in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. She is married to Denis, mum to Ryan, Faye and Cassie, and is a triathlete in her spare time.
Niamh joined ALCI council in March 2021 as Secretary and Assistant Public Relations Officer (PRO).
