Fionnuala Cooney, MB, DCH, MRCOG, MSc Epi, FFPHMI is a medical doctor who has been working in Public Health for over 25 years, recently taking up the role of Area Director of Public Health.
Fionnuala’s special interest is the health of children and women. She has been an advocate of breastfeeding both within HSE and RCPI and has a record in breastfeeding research and policy development.
Fionnuala was awarded the Trudi Szallasi scholarship from Health e-Learning in 2016, trained as a Cuidiú breastfeeding counsellor in 2017/2018 and qualified as an IBCLC in 2020. Her interest in lactation has been very much supported by many ALCI members, including the fantastic team at the National Maternity Hospital.
Fionnuala plans to continue to advocate for breastfeeding and looks forward to contributing to the work of ALCI as a Council member.
