ALCI’s Annual All Ireland Breastfeeding Conference 2016

Cathy2013ALCI is heading to Dublin for this year’s Annual All Ireland Conference, which takes place on Friday September 30th and Saturday October 1st in the Hilton Dublin Airport (Malahide Road, Northern Cross). This date, as usual, coincides with National Breastfeeding Week, and ALCI are delighted to have renowned international speaker Catherine Watson Genna BS IBCLC as the keynote speaker this year.
Catherine Watson Genna is an IBCLC in private practice in New York City. She is an international speaker and is widely published, with titles such as Selecting And Using Breastfeeding Tools, Supporting Sucking Skills In Breastfeeding Infants as well as professional journal articles. She is an active La Leche League Leader and is the Associate Editor of the United States Lactation Consultant Association journal Clinical Lactation. Catherine will facilitate a workshop on positioning as part of the ALCI Conference, as well as four other presentations on infant oral assessment, synthesising suck research, breastfeeding strategies for tongue tied babies and teasing out the etiology of breastfeeding problems.
Other speakers will include Anne Marie Shine (Senior Dietician, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin), Margaret Murphy IBCLC, Eithne Murray IBCLC, Celia Butler (Speech and Language Therapist), Sara Dallape (Speech And Language Therapist) and Siobhan Hourigan (National Breastfeeding Coordinator). Friday afternoon will be taken up with valuable workshops; Catherine Watson Genna will facilitate a practical workshop on positioning & attachment, Caoimhe Whelan will shed light on becoming an IBCLC from a non-medical background and members of the ALCI Council will share helpful strategies in relation to breastfeeding and communicating with the media. Handouts, lunch and refreshments are included in the registration fee. The prices are €140 for ALCI members (for both days) or €100 (for one day) and €190 for non-members (for both days) and €150 for non-members (for one day).  Full-time undergraduate students, in relevant professions, may register for a fee of €40 per day. 11 IBLCE CERPs and 8 An Bord Altranais CMUs have been awarded.
