ALCI is heading to Tipperary for this year’s Annual Conference (Timetable here), which takes place on Friday October 2nd and Saturday 3rd in the very accessible Horse & Jockey Hotel. This date, as usual, coincides with National Breastfeeding Week (October 1st to 7th), and ALCI are delighted to have renowned international speaker Dr Lisa Amir IBCLC as the Keynote Speaker.
Associate Professor Lisa Amir, MBBS MMed PhD IBCLC FABM FILCA, is a general practitioner and lactation consultant. She works in breastfeeding medicine at The Royal Women’s Hospital and in private practice. She is a Principal Research Fellow at the Judith Lumley Centre, La Trobe University, Australia. She is the author of over 60 peer-reviewed articles, and the Editor-in-Chief of International Breastfeeding Journal. At the ALCI Conference Lisa will speak about “Breastfeeding Problems – Abscess To Vasospasm”, the “ CASTLE study: evidence about nipple and breast pain”, “Antenatal Expression- current thoughts ”, and “Breast Pump Explosion – results from a large cohort study”.
Other speakers will include Aoife Hearne MINDI of Operation Transformation, Dr. Patricia Leahy-Warren, Dr. Justin Roche Consultant Paediatrician, Mairead Murphy IBCLC, Mairead Twohig Occupational Therapist and Elizabeth Quinn IBCLC. Friday afternoon will be taken up with valuable workshops about becoming or recertifying as an IBCLC. With three sessions, both those with a medical background and with a background as a Mother Support Counsellor will be catered for. The Conference will once again be a venue for the Quintessence Challenge, and any breastfeeding mothers present are welcome to partake. The full Timetable is available here.
Handouts, lunch and refreshments are included in the registration fee. The prices are €130 for ALCI members (for both days) or €90 (for one day) and €180 for non-members (for both days) and €140 for non-members (for one day). Full-time undergraduate students in relevant professions may register for a fee of €30 per day. IBCLE CERPs have been awarded and An Bord Altranais CMUs have been applied for.
As part of the conference, the ALCI Scholarship will be awarded to help first-time IBCLCs. Conference participants are invited to submit research and practice posters for display, discussion, and awards.
